Ryan Reynolds Still Doesn't Know When Or How 'Deadpool 3' Will Happen

Among the many questions left unanswered by the Disney acquisition of Fox last year was how the House of Mouse would bring the Fox comic-book properties into the MCU, including “Deadpool.” Two years after the release of “Deadpool 2” and its star, Ryan Reynolds still doesn’t know where things stand with the “Merc with a Mouth.”

Speaking with Total Film magazine, Reynolds discussed what’s in store for Deadpool moving forward. “Oh, man, I really don’t know,” Reynolds said. “It’s just all so new with it being over at Marvel now, and, you know, figuring out the ins and outs as much as I can, from where I sit. We’ll see.”

While the prospect of a “Deadpool 3” should be a no-brainer, the fact that we still have no announcement, or director, or even a writer seems strange. One big problem that the franchise is facing is its use of the X-Men and mutants in general. We do know that Kevin Feige has plans for the X-Men in the MCU, but not for a very long time. Does this mean that they’ll wait until mutants join the MCU before throwing Deadpool into the mix? Or will they simply stick to the handful of mutants already a part of “Deadpool” like Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead and ignore the “X-Men” part of the mutants for the time being?

Another possibility is that “Deadpool 3” will be a completely separate entity from the MCU, but would Marvel really miss the chance to have Deadpool crossover with the rest of its universe?

Reynolds doesn’t have an answer, nor does he feel like he’s become an insider at Disney. “I don’t feel like an insider at all,” Reynolds said. “I think once I’m more intimate with it – if we get to make a Deadpool 3… if or when we get to make a Deadpool 3, I’ll probably have a better perspective on that. But I’m a huge fan of Marvel, and how they make movies. So when Disney bought Fox, I only saw that as a good thing. Deadpool hopefully being allowed to play in that sandbox, I think is just a win for everyone involved. But we’ll certainly see.”
