The list of actors who survived a major, blockbuster flop and not only live to tell the tale, but be at the peak of their career as the lead of another blockbuster movie is fairly small. But you can count Ryan Reynolds among that select company. The actor shook off the stink of the Warner Bros. disaster “Green Lantern” with another superhero role in “Deadpool,” which was made for a fraction of the cost of fare this year like “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and “Suicide Squad,” and was far more readily loved than both of those efforts. But the actor admits his career was in rough shape after playing Hal Jordan.
“…I represented the death of the superhero for a while. After ‘Green Lantern,’ I was pretty much unhirable. ‘Deadpool’ was one of those things that was just so specific — it was like this weird superhero anarchy that I loved so much. I think I was in the superhero suit more in the marketing materials than I was in the actual film. Which is why I stole the suit at the end of production and just brought it home with me,” he shared with Taraji P. Henson during their Variety “Actors On Actors” talk.
It’s a candid admission from Reynolds, and across his conversation with Henson, they get honest about auditions, social media, and much more. Check it out in full.
