Got a Tip?

Ryan Reynolds & Taika Waititi Have A Curious Case Of ‘Green Lantern’ Amnesia In New ‘Free Guy’ Video

Honestly, it’s a miracle that the cast introduction video for the upcoming film “Free Guy” even exists. How can you get any work done when you have Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi in the same room together? Well, somehow Fox made it work and released a new video with the cast of the upcoming action-comedy that features the two men joined by Joe Keery and the recent Emmy winner Jodie Comer.

The video starts off simply enough, with Keery and Comer explaining why they’re part of the upcoming film that is set to be released next summer by Fox. However, once the video focuses on Reynolds and Waititi, the two gentlemen bring the forward momentum to a screeching halt and derail the video into the realm of the absurd. And obviously, the result is something better than your typical publicity interview.

Reynolds explained why he’s in “Free Guy” by being his humble self. He said, “I’m really mostly here for Taika. I’ve been a huge fan of his for a long time and it’s super cool to finally meet him.”

Waititi quickly replied with “ditto” and explained how he’s excited to finally meet Reynolds.

Comer and Keery, the keen observationalists that they are, brought up the fact that Reynolds and Waititi both starred in the 2011 “Green Lantern” film. However, it appears that both actors have a curious case of amnesia.

“This is the first time we met. But that’s the cool thing about this industry is that it brings people together,” replied Waititi, denying that he has any knowledge of “Green Lantern.”

Reynolds added, “Maybe you’re thinking of Jessica Tandy and Kathy Bates in ‘Fried Green Tomatoes?’”

Here’s the synopsis for “Free Guy,” a film that both admit to being part of:

The hi-tech action comedy “Free Guy” is the unconventional story of a lonely bank teller who discovers he is actually a background character in the brutal open-world videogame Free City.

The film is written by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn and directed by Shawn Levy. “Free Guy” is expected to arrive in theaters on July 3, 2020.
