'Saint Maud' Trailer: Celebrate Ash Wednesday With A New Look At A24's Upcoming Horror Film

Unless you’re a religious person, you may not realize that today is actually Ash Wednesday. As seen in the new trailer, “Saint Maud” tells the story of Maud, a disturbed hospice nurse that becomes obsessed with saving the soul of her patient. However, as she delves deeper into the process of saving her dying patient, Maud becomes haunted by sinister forces and situations from her past that complicate things.

It’s clear that A24 is marketing “Saint Maud” in much the same way the distributor did for “Hereditary,” by focusing on the creepy imagery without giving too much away in terms of plot specifics. And it’s working because “Saint Maud” does seem like it’s going to be one of the creepier films to be released this year.

The horror film stars Morfydd Clark, Jennifer Ehle, Lilly Frazer, Lily Knight, Marcus Hutton, Turlough Convery, and Rosie Sansom. The film marks the debut for writer-director Rose Glass. So, even if she has yet to prove herself on the feature side of things, director Bong Joon Ho recently named Glass as one of the 20 filmmakers that will have an impact on the next decade.

“Saint Maud” will arrive in theaters on April 3.

Here’s the synopsis:

The debut film from writer-director Rose Glass, Saint Maud is a chilling and boldly original vision of faith, madness, and salvation in a fallen world. Maud, a newly devout hospice nurse, becomes obsessed with saving her dying patient’s soul — but sinister forces, and her own sinful past, threaten to put an end to her holy calling.
