Sam Raimi has teamed up with Joshua Donen’s Stars Road Entertainment in a two-year, first-look deal with Sony Pictures TV. CBS’s Robert Zotnowski is spearheading the company’s TV efforts. Raimi’s past TV efforts include “Xena: Warrior Princess,” “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” and “Legend Of The Seeker.” [THR]
“Smallville” producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar will scribe an adaptation of James Frey and Jobie Hughes’ novel, “I Am Number Four” which already has Michael Bay on board as a producer and possible director. It’s been a while since we heard from him right? Something to do with a certain sequel? Things don’t look any better – ‘Number Four’ centers on a group of nine aliens who flee to Earth when their home planet is destroyed and disguise themselves as teenagers. [Variety]
Scribe Nick Rizzo is developing a contemporary television adaptation of the 1989 feature “Heathers” which starred Christian Slater and Winona Ryder. While how he will approach the reboot is still under consideration, it is said to follow the original characters and story which centered on Veronica who, along with a new bad boy, begins to take out one by one a clique of mean girls, all named Heather. Shapely “Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks has joined the cast of rom-com “Life As We Know It.” Starring Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl, the film follows two unattached adults who suddenly find themselves the caregivers of the orphaned daughter of their recently deceased best friends. Hendricks will play the best friend – spoiler alert? [Variety]
Martin Freeman and Mandy Moore are set to reteam for rom-com “Swinging With The Finkels” and will star along side Melissa George, Jonathan Silverman and Jerry Stiller. Nothing is known about the film other than that it will be based on the short film “Sex With The Finkels” which writer-director Jonathan Newman debuted on his website. Sounds like a bit of a success story. [THR]
Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo are set to star in Brad Anderson’s indie-thriller “Vanishing On Seventh Street.” The film will follow five survivors who struggle in a world where shadowy forms have caused residents to disappear. Will Christensen ever catch a break? Probably not. [THR]
