Sam Riley And Carey Mulligan Team For 'Brighton Rock,' Marion Collitard Leads 'Les Petits Mouchoirs,' John Goodman Joins Andrew Niccol's 'The Cross'

Sam Riley and Carey Mulligan are set to star in Rowan Joffe’s adaptation of Graham Greene’s “Brighton Rock.” The story is described as an underworld thriller and follows a young gangster who marries the waitress who witnessed a murder he’s committed in order to keep her quiet. Riley and Mulligan? Color us intrigued. [Variety]

John Goodman is in talks to join Orlando Bloom, Olga Kurylenko and Vincent Cassel in Andrew Niccol’s “The Cross.” The $24 million sci-fi pic will begin shooting in mid-September in Australia and follows the story of a man (Bloom) in the near future trying to be the first to cross a mysterious border while a guard (Cassel) will go to any lengths to stop him. Niccol is of course the director of the critically acclaimed “Gattaca” and writer of Peter Weir’s “The Truman Show.” [Variety]

Marion Cotillard will star in tragicomedy “Les Petits Mouchoirs,” which follows a group of friends who travel from Paris to the coast at Cap Ferret near Bordeaux for their traditional summer holiday together, only to find that the mood sobers as characters confess their innermost concerns. Joining Cotillard are Francois Cluzet, Benoit Magimel, Anne Marivin, Gilles Lelouche and Jean Dujardin. Guillaume Canet (“Tell No One”) will be helming. You had us at Cotillard. [Variety]

Tilda Swinton is set to lead Lynne Ramsay’s big-screen adaptation “We Need to Talk About Kevin.” Based on the Lionel Shriver’s novel, ‘Kevin’ tells the story of a smart, educated New York mother who does her best to raise a difficult, unwanted son who breaks down her marriage before going on a crossbow killing spree at his high school. Lily Cole and Scott Speedman will star in the gothic horror film “The Moth Diaries,” the story of an elite New England boarding school where a mysterious young girl arrives amid a spate of campus deaths. The film is based on the Rachel Klein’s cult novel and has a late summer shoot in Montreal planned. [Screen Daily]
