'Save Yourselves!' Throwback Sci-Fi Trailer: A Disconnecting Couple Miss An Alien Attack

We’re all badly addicted to technology, addicted to our phones, addicted to text message dings, Twitter notifications, Instagram stories, and lord knows what other social media apps distracting us from life and consuming us 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is the jumping-off point of “Save Yourselves!“: two Brooklyn hipsters fully aware of their social and digital obsessions and deciding to take a trip out of town and to seclusion to unplug from it all. Written and directed by Alex H. Fischer and Eleanor Wilson, is a comedy with sci-fi tinges– after disconnecting and ditching their phones, the couple winds up missing news of an alien attack.

“Save Yourselves!” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and stars Sunita Mani, John Reynolds, Ben Sinclair, John Early, Jo Firestone, Gary Richardson, Johanna Day, Zenobia Shroff, and Amy Sedaris.

Jack (John Reynolds) and Su (Sunita Mani) are a hip Brooklyn couple who, like many of their friends, find themselves dependent on technology and unable to put down their phones. Fearing their mindless scrolling may impact their connection with each other, they seize the chance to head to an isolated cabin in the woods, vowing to unplug from the outside world for a week. Sheltered from texts and push notifications, they are blissfully unaware that the planet is under attack. As strange events unfold, the couple must figure out a way back to civilization—or what’s left of it.
