While Scarlett Johansson‘s time at Marvel Studios is winding down as her MCU character Natasha Romanoff died in “Avengers: Endgame” and there is an expectation that Florence Pugh‘s Yelena Belova will be taking over the superhero mantle post-“Black Widow,” Disney is reportedly continuing their working relationship with the actress. Which yes, may be a no-brainer.
According to Collider, Scarlett Johansson is attached to star and produce a feature film based on the former Disney theme park ride “Tower of Terror” at Walt Disney Pictures. Tower of Terror is a horror-like ride inspired by the world of Rod Serling’s iconic “Twilight Zone” series that features a controlled elevator drop in a 1930’s Hollywood hotel, a period setting that would certainly make the film visually striking.

The outlet also mentions that scribe Josh Cooley (“Inside Out,” “Toy Story 4“) is currently writing the script for “Tower of Terror.” Although, it’s unclear if Cooley will direct as he helmed “Toy Story 4” at Pixar, and we’ve seen animation directors like “The Incredibles” filmmaker Brad Bird make the jump to live-action projects.
“Tower of Terror” was previously turned into a TV movie back in 1997 that starred “Police Academy“s Steve Guttenberg and future “Spider-Man” star Kirsten Dunst.
This wouldn’t be the first time Disney has attempted to put together projects based on their theme park rides as the success of the “Pirates of The Caribbean” franchise led to George Clooney‘s “Tomorrowland.”
Future projects in the works at Disney consist of a film based on their “Space Mountain” rollercoaster from “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series writer Joby Harold that recently entered early development, a new “Haunted Mansion” film from “Dear White People“s Justin Simien and plans to bring a “Magic Kingdom” cinematic universe to Disney+ coming from “Battlestar Galactica“s Ronald D. Moore.
Meanwhile, “Black Widow,” starring Johansson, will hit theaters and stream via Disney+’s Premier Access on July 9.
