Believe it or not, but the Earth continues to move around the sun after Shia LaBeouf dropped the upcoming comedy “Rock The Kasbah” from his slate. But the universe has found a way to right itself, with a replacement signed up to keep the movie going.
Scott Caan will take over LaBeouf’s part, joining Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson, Zooey Deschanel and Danny McBride in the movie. The story centers on a washed-up rock manager (Murray) who travels to Afghanistan on business and finds himself stranded in Kabul. Fortunately he quickly discovers a talented singer intent on winning the competition show “Afghan Star,” and sets about recovering his career once more. Caan will share screentime with McBride, with the pair playing a military duo. Production starts in June. [THR]
“Terminator: Genesis” is adding to its ranks, with Byung-hun Lee (aka Storm Shadow from the “G.I. Joe” movies), Michael Gladis (Paul Kinsey from “Mad Men“) and Sandrine Holt (Gillian from “House Of Cards“) all on board. They join Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, J.K. Simmons and Dayo Okeniyi in the Alan Taylor directed sequel. [THR]
Bobby Cannavale and Nia Long have joined the simply titled “Spy” — formerly known as “Susan Cooper” — the comedy from Melissa McCarthy and Paul Feig. Jason Statham, Jude Law, Rose Byrne and Miranda Hart are already on board the spy laffer about “a CIA analyst who goes into the field for the first time.” [THR]
Lastly, Topher Grace has joined Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Uma Thurman and Walton Goggins in “American Ultra.” The story follows “a stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend is upended when his past catches up with him, putting him the crosshairs of a government operation bent on wiping him out.” Grace will play a power hungry CIA dude.
