Scott Cooper’s ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere’ Set As 2025 NYFF Spotlight Gala Premiere

There are still a substantial number of films still to be revealed for the 2025 New York Film Festival, but this morning, Film at Lincoln Center unveiled a very special gala, a festival premiere of Scott Cooper’s “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.” The 20th Century Studios biopic stars Jeremy Allen White as the legendary “Boss,” Bruce Springsteen, Jeremy Strong as Jon Landeau, the artist’s manager and record producer, as well as Odessa Young and Stephen Graham. The gala will occur on Sunday, September 28. Springsteen is currently scheduled to attend the event.

In a statement, Cooper remarked, “The New York Film Festival has always felt like a spiritual home for the kind of cinema I believe in. To now arrive with a film about Bruce Springsteen—an artist whose music shaped not just a country but my own sense of storytelling—is something I could never have imagined. Getting to know Bruce, to explore his world and his spirit, has been one of the most profound creative experiences of my life. To share that experience with New York audiences, in a city that defines artistic possibility, is both an honor and a responsibility I hold with deep gratitude.”

Denis Lim, the artistic director of the New York Film Festival, added, “Taking its cue from the stark majesty of Bruce Springsteen’s classic album ‘Nebraska,’ Scott Cooper’s ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere’ has an intimacy and immediacy that eludes most film biographies. Anchored by Jeremy Allen White’s revelatory performance, this year’s Spotlight Gala selection is a fitting tribute to a living legend.”

Based on the novel “Deliver Me from Nowhere” by Warren Zanes, and adapted by Cooper. It’s rumored that the awards season contender will have its world premiere in the mountains over Labor Day weekend.

Cooper is no stranger to music-centered dramas. His directorial debut, “Crazy Heart,” saw Jeff Bridges win the Oscar for Best Actor. He’s also tackled real-life historical figures in “Black Mass.” His other films include “Out of the Furnace,” “The Pale Blue Eye,” “Hostiles,” and “Antlers.” “Nowhere” is set for a wide release in the U.S. on October 24.

White is a two-time Emmy Award, three-time SAG Award, and three-time Golden Globe Award winner for his breakthrough role in FX’s “The Bear.” A veteran of the seminal Showtime series “Shameless,” White recently appeared in “The Iron Claw” and “Fingernails.” He’ll be seen opposite Austin Butler in “Enemies” and “The Mandalorian and Grogu” in 2026.

An Oscar nominee for “The Apprentice” earlier this year, Strong is best known for his Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award-winning turn as Kendall Roy in the modern television classic, “Succession.” He also won a Tony Award in 2024 for his performance in “An Enemy of the People.” His long list of film credits includes “The Messenger,” “Lincoln,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “Selma,” “Black Mass,” “Armageddon Time,” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”

Young’s credits include a slew of respected independent films, including “Assassination Nation,” “Shirley,” “Looking for Grace,” and “The Order.” Her television credits include “The Stand,” “The Staircase,” and the upcoming Netflix series “Black Rabbit.”

This year’s New York Film Festival already includes a diverse slate of selections including Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt,” Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother,” Bradley Cooper’s “Is This Thing On?,” Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value,” Kathryn Bigelow’s “A House of Dynamite,” Noah Baumbach’s “Jay Kelly,” and this year’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner, Jafar Panahi‘s “It Was Just An Accident.”

The 63rd New York Film Festival will take place from September 26 through October 13.
