Got a Tip?

The ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Alternate Ending That Was Never Shot

Obviously, if you haven’t seen “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” and don’t want the ending ruined or the film “spoiled” don’t read this.

Anyway, in the months leading up to its release in theaters this month, Edgar Wright did some last minute retooling on “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” changing the ending from what test screening/preview audiences saw earlier in the year. But little did we know that Wright had another fun idea in mind for the DVD that unfortunately he wasn’t able to capture at least for posterity.

At a preview screening in New York City earlier this year with the Wright and the cast in attendance, the director joked that he had alternate ending in mind where it was revealed the entire thing was a dream (something Wright kind of alluded to in our recent interview with him) and in the end there’s a TV news report that says a local Toronto teen has killed 7 people.

Funny idea, but we wanted to try and get a little background. We got in touch with Edgar Wright who revealed that he tried to get the scene in the can earlier this year during the additional shooting days, but didn’t have a chance, “Yeah, we nearly shot that on video during the reshoots — but dammit, we only had 6 hours of night and no time to do it — [it] would have been funny.”

Anyhow, the picture above is from the webcomic Half Assed Commitment (where you can see it in its full size glory) who either received a whisper in their ear from Wright or spun a comic around the anecdote. Either way, its an amusing and clever gag, but sadly, one we’ll never see actually realized.
