Watch Sean Baker Combine 'The Warriors' And High Fashion In His New Short, 'Khaite'

Have you ever watched Walter Hill’s 1979 film, “The Warriors,” and thought, “Man, I’d love to see a version of this where the tough New York City gangs are replaced by supermodels in incredibly fashionable clothing?” Well, maybe you haven’t, but we’re going to guess Sean Baker has, which is evident in his new short, “Khaite.”

As you might gather from the name, Baker’s short is really a bit of an ad for the Fall/Winter 2021 line of clothing from Khaite. But the 4-minute short film is far from your typical runway debut. Instead, Baker has taken the dirt, grime, and grit of Hill’s “The Warriors” and NYC of that era and filled it with models wearing beautiful clothing but acting like complete maniacs. These models have bloody smiles and carry bats. Definitely not the composure and glamour that they’re typically known for.

“This project has honestly been one of the most creatively cathartic experiences I have worked on,” said Baker. “This is our crazy love letter to New York City and I hope audiences have as much fun watching as we had making it.”

As a film/TV website, it’s not our place to judge fashion or tell you what is or isn’t couture, but Baker definitely does a great job selling us on this lineup of clothing. So, take that for what it’s worth.

If you’re wondering who Sean Baker is, then you probably should also go ahead and watch his most recent films, the award-winning features “Tangerine” and “The Florida Project.” Both of those films, much like his new short, feature lo-fi takes on filmmaking, with “Tangerine” going so far as to be completely filmed on an iPhone. He’s already working on his next feature, titled “Red Rocket.”
