'Secret Life Of Pets 2' Final Trailer: An Anxious City Dog Visits A Farm To In This Animated Sequel

By the time it hit theaters in 2016, “The Secret Life of Pets” had already enjoyed a lengthy (and ultimately effective) marketing campaign. The film grossed $875 million worldwide and earned a spot among the top ten highest grossing films of that year. It also boasted the biggest opening weekend of any original film, ever. Now, three years later, its highly anticipated sequel has arrived to take the world by storm. Even better, its final trailer just dropped. Check it out!

The Secret Life of Pets 2” follows the Jack Russell Terrier Max as he and Newfoundland mix Duke (Eric Stonestreet) embark on a vacation to a farm with Max’s owner, Katie. Their getaway goes south when Max, so consumed with protecting Katie’s toddler Liam, develops a nervous tic. Luckily, he’s not alone, and he receives some much-needed help from the farm’s many furry (and feathered) residents. Back at Katie’s apartment, the pomeranian Gidget and grey tabby Chloe attempt to protect Max’s favorite toy from a horde of cats. Meanwhile, the rabbit Snowball embarks on a mission to prove to the world that he’s a superhero. For a film about talking animals, there are a lot of moving parts.

Previously voiced by Louis C.K., Max is now brought to life by ‘Ratatouille‘ actor and comedian Patton Oswalt. Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, and Lake Bell all reprise their roles from the first film. Tiffany Haddish and Harrison Ford join the cast as the Shih Tzu Daisy and the alpha dog Rooster, respectively. The film marks Ford’s first appearance in an animated film.

The above trailer emphasizes that fear is the true antagonist of this star-studded sequel. The footage features Max and company struggling together (and separately) to conquer what terrifies them most. The film shares its theme with countless other animated features, but as long as it explores and resolves it compellingly, the movie will be a fun one.

“The Secret Life of Pets 2” hits theaters on June 7.
