Illumination’s upcoming highly-anticipated sequel “The Secret Life of Pets 2” is doing something unique with its marketing campaign. Instead of sharing full trailers, detailing the plot of the film, the studio is releasing character-centric teasers, showcasing little storylines with the various pets and their celebrity vocal talent. The latest puts Kevin Hart (who’s been in a few headlines lately, huh?) and his character Snowball front and center, in a superheroic way.
The teaser is fairly straightforward, is the adorable Snowball is a rabbit that is dressed up by his human as Captain Snowball, the cute superhero protecting New York City and leader of the Superhero Animal Friends. It’s yet another quick, but funny, look at the animated film that not only was a hit with children but has found a good deal of adult fans thanks to the fact that every human loves pets.
Kevin Hart isn’t the only major actor attached to the film. “The Secret Life of Pets 2” features the voices of Patton Oswalt (taking over for Louis C.K. after the comedian’s #MeToo controversy), Lake Bell, Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Ellie Kemper, Jenny Slate, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Burress, Tiffany Haddish, and more. Considering what happened with C.K.’s exclusion from the film, it’ll be interesting to see how the sequel handles Hart’s recent controversy, which cost him the Oscar hosting gig. Perhaps people will forget all about it come next summer?

The Secret Life of Pets 2 will follow summer 2016’s blockbuster about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day. Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy will produce the sequel to the comedy that had the best opening ever for an original film, animated or otherwise. The Secret Life of Pets 2 will see the return of writer Brian Lynch (Minions) and once again be directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me series, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax).
