American audiences might not know author Kōtarō Isaka by name. However, you are probably familiar with the newest film based on one of his novels. His book, “Maria Beetle,” was recently turned into a feature film titled “Bullet Train,” with one of the best ensemble casts of the year. And his next novel, “Seesaw Monster,” is expected to get the same treatment.
According to THR, Anne Hathaway and Salma Hayek are set to co-star in and produce a new film, “Seesaw Monster,” based on the novel by Isaka. A director has yet to be named, but the film adaptation will be written by Olivia Milch. The exact plot details are unknown at this time, but the film is said to be an action-comedy following two rivals who have to join forces. The rivals, of course, will be played by Hathaway and Hayek.
Most recently, Hayek is probably known for her role in Marvel Studios‘ “Eternals.” She’s also appeared in “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” and “House of Gucci.” Next up, she has a voice role in the newest “Puss in Boots” film as well as a supporting role in the upcoming “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.”
Hathaway has recently been seen in the acclaimed Apple TV+ series, “WeCrashed.” She is also earning rave reviews for her performance in James Gray’s latest film, “Armageddon Time,” which just recently arrived in theaters.
The film is being distributed by Netflix. It’s unclear when production on “Seesaw Monster” might begin. However, without a director attached, this still feels as if it is in the early stages of development.
