'Selena: The Series' Teaser: Christian Serratos To Star As Selena In A New Netflix Drama About The Iconic Singer

Depending on your age, the name Selena Quintanilla might bring to mind different people. If you’re somewhat older, you likely remember the music from the incredible singer that transcended language and culture. And if you’re someone that grew up in the mid-to-late-‘90s, then you likely think of the film “Selena,” starring Jennifer Lopez, which has the actress portraying the tragic true story of the iconic singer. Well, Netflix is ready to bring the name back for a new series, aptly titled “Selena: The Series,” and the streamer is hoping that there’s a new generation ready to discover the musical artist.

As seen in the first teaser for “Selena: The Series,” Netflix has hired actress Christian Serratos to star as the title singer, who rose to fame in the early-‘90s and had her life cut tragically short due to the violent actions of an obsessed fan. And though the teaser doesn’t hint at any of that impending drama, it does show the new actress taking over the role and what she might sound like as Selena.

“Selena is an inspirational figure who’s transcended generations. At Campanario, we’ve always known it was crucial for this series to find actors with the right mix of talent, charisma, and passion to honor Selena’s legacy and the story of her family,”said Jaime Davila, president and co-founder of Campanario Entertainment. “Our casting director Carla Hool and her team have found an amazing cast to depict the Quintanilla family, and we’re sure fans everywhere will be captivated yet again by Selena’s incredible life.”

The series stars Serratos alongside Gabriel Chavarria, Ricardo Chavira, Noemi Gonzalez, Seidy Lopez, and Madison Taylor Baez as the young Selena. Similar to how Netflix has released other recent original series, the streaming company is splitting the story into multiple “parts” and not “seasons.” The first part will consist of six one-hour episodes.

It’s far too early to know an exact release date, but production on “Selena: The Series” began last month.

Here’s the synopsis:

A coming of age story following Selena Quintanilla as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music.
