Sandra Bullock Teams With Writer Christopher McQuarrie For New Netflix Film About Post-Prison Life

Netflix has already hit it big with a project about women in prison and dealing with life on the outside. So, if “Orange is the New Black” can do it and become a massive, fan-favorite, why not do it with Sandra Bullock in the lead? Well, that’s what the streaming service is doing with a new film that finds Bullock trying to deal with life as she leaves prison.

According to Variety, Bullock has signed on to star in a new untitled film from director Nora Fingscheidt that focuses on a female prisoner that has to figure out how to adjust to life on the outside. The story follows the woman, who was locked up for a violent offense, as she attempts to re-enter a society that won’t forgive her, as she realizes that her only path to redemption centers on fixing a relationship with a younger sister she left behind.

Perhaps the best news of all is that the film is written by none other than Christopher McQuarrie. Obviously, it would be amazing if he directed the film, as well (no offense to Ms. Fingscheidt), but he’s clearly busy traveling around the world with Tom Cruise doing “Mission: Impossible” stuff for the foreseeable future. However, even just as a screenwriter, he’s one of the best, with films like “The Usual Suspects” and “Edge of Tomorrow” under his belt.

This marks yet another project for Bullock and Netflix. Kicking off with the surprise hit last year, “Bird Box,” the partnership seems to be going strong, as the actress has signed on to produce another film for the streaming service that she might star in that’s coming from ‘LEGO Batman’ director Chris McKay.

Fingscheidt is a new name in the film world, having made her directorial debut with the recent film “Systemsprenger,” which debuted at this year’s Berlin Film Festival. The film would go on to take home the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize for new perspectives in cinema and was chosen by Germany as their official selection to compete for the foreign film Academy Award.

No word on when production might occur, but we’ll definitely keep you up to date when news drops.
