'Self Made' Trailer: Octavia Spencer Stars In Netflix Series About America's First Female Self-Made Millionaire

Netflix is ready to introduce the world to the true story of America’s first female, self-made millionaire, Madam C.J. Walker. In the new limited series “Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker,” viewers will learn the story of the one woman that took a small haircare product and turned it into an empire in the early 20th century.

As seen in the new trailer for “Self Made,” we meet Walker, a woman that is struggling to find her way in the post-slavery United States. And when she finds a product that can help her hair grow back, she begins her mission to become a businesswoman in a world that was not so welcoming for Black people or women, let alone a Black woman. Through her struggles, she grew to be a massive success and broke barriers for future generations of People of Color and women.

The cast for the limited series includes Octavia Spencer, Blair Underwood, Tiffany Haddish, Carmen Ejogo, Garrett Morris, Kevin Carroll, and Bill Bellamy. The series comes from showrunners Elle Johnson and Janine Sherman Barrois, with episodes directed by Kasi Lemmons and DeMane Davis.

“Self Made” arrives on Netflix on March 20.
