There’s a lot going on in the new trailer for “Serenity.” The premise seems basic enough — a fishing boat captain is approached by a mysterious woman, who asks him to kill her abusive husband. But then again, that wouldn’t make for an interesting film, would it? That’s when the craziness of the trailer begins. You have a small island where everyone knows everyone, with an eclectic cast of characters including a small, obviously evil man who knows more than he lets on. All while the tension is escalating as the trailer comes to its conclusion with the click, click, click of a fishing pole.

“Serenity” stars Matthew McConaughey, who was obviously born to play a fishing boat captain in a film. Joining McConaughey in the cast is Anne Hathaway, Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Strong, and Diane Lane. So, with this cast alone, you should definitely be excited. The film is written and directed by Steven Knight, who is probably best known for his work as writer-director of 2013’s “Locke,” as well as his work as a writer on series “Peaky Blinders” and “Taboo.”

Here’s the synopsis:
From the creative mind of Oscar nominee, Steven Knight comes a daringly original, sexy, stylized thriller. Baker Dill (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey) is a fishing boat captain leading tours off a tranquil, tropical enclave called Plymouth Island. His quiet life is shattered, however, when his ex-wife Karen (Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway) tracks him down with a desperate plea for help. She begs Dill to save her – and their young son – from her new, violent husband (Jason Clarke) by taking him out to sea on a fishing excursion, only to throw him to the sharks and leave him for dead. Karen’s appearance thrusts Dill back into a life he’d tried to forget, and as he struggles between right and wrong, his world is plunged into a new reality that may not be all that it seems
