‘Servant’ Trailer: M. Night Shyamalan Presents A Twisted Take On Childcare In New AppleTV+ Series

Parents always want the best for their kids and—sometimes—that means enlisting the help of others to accomplish this responsibility. They pour over the resumes of prospective caregivers, as the individuals themselves smile from ear to ear from across the kitchen table. Inevitably—however—cracks begin to show in the person’s friendly façade, and their malicious intentions bubble and boil over into violence. It’s been a fairly common trope in film and TV, but it’s one that comeback kid M. Night Shyamalan seeks to put his own unique spin on with the show “Servant.”

Tony Basgallop—nominated for a BAFTA TV award for the miniseries “To the Ends of the Earth”—is the series’ creator and executive produces it along with Shyamalan, Todd Black, Steve Tisch, Ashwin Rajan, and Jason Blumenthal. The show’s cinematographer is Mike Gioulakis, a collaborator with Shyamalan on “Split” and “Glass.”

Toby Kebbell (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” & “Fantastic Four”) and Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under”) play parents, Sean and Dorothy Turner, respectively. Nell Tiger Free (“Game of Thrones”) portrays Leanne Grayson, and “Harry Potter’s” own Ron Weasley—Rupert Grint—joins the cast as well.

Here’s a synopsis:

The series follows “parents Dorothy and Sean Turner, who have hired young nanny Leanne to help care for their newborn child.” As time goes on, it becomes clear that “things are not quite as they seem.”

Shyamalan also directs the first episode of the show which contains 10 30-minute episodes in its first season. “Servant”—distributed by Apple Inc.—premieres on AppleTV+ on November 28.
