Shane Black To Helm Columbia's 'Doc Savage' Film Adaptation

After previously being brought on to write the screenplay, Shane Black will now helm Columbia’s “Doc Savage” film adaptation.

Savage is an iconic character who became popular in the 30’s and 40’s through radio, film and TV with his talents for fighting evil including superhuman abilities as a scientist, physician, adventurer, inventor, explorer and researcher.

The progress of the franchise as a film could mean good things for Michel Gondry and Seth Rogen’s own 30’s action hero adaptation with Columbia co-president Matt Tolmach revealing that the studio “had a great experience working with [producer Neal Moritz] to bring another classic character of the era, ‘The Green Hornet,’ to a new generation of fans, and we think he and Shane make the ideal team to bring ‘Doc Savage’ back to the big screen.”

Black wrote the “Doc Savage” script with Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry and will now tackle only his second directorial effort after the much-loved “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.” Black is best known for writing a number of 80’s and 90’s action classics including all the ‘Lethal Weapon’ films, “The Long Kiss Goodnight,” and “The Last Boy Scout” and also a new collaboration with Mel Gibson, “Cold Warrior” in the pipeline.
