Got a Tip?

Sharlto Copley Says ‘District 9’ Sequel At Least Two Years Away & Might Be A Prequel

God, MarketSaw, an embarrassment to us all. So the sequel to “District 9” — dubbed “District 10” for now — is shooting this fall, right? Or so says MarketSaw who saw it written on an Internet bathroom wall claimed sources “close” to the production told them this indeed would be the case.

The problem is MarketSaw is either the most gullible movie site on the Internet and or someone out there just loves fucking with them time and time again.

Either way, we didn’t buy it for a second and now “District 9” star Sharlto Copley has pissed alien goo all over their report.

First off, director Neill Blomkamp is shooting something else first (what that is seems to be unknown at the moment) and that sequel is probably going to be a prequel. “Neil wants it and I want it, [but] Neil’s doing another film first,” Copley told Empire. “Then I think if everything goes according to plan we’ll do the second film in about two years time. That story can go in so many different ways. There’s a whole universe. I’m sure a lot of writers say that, but we actually have an entire universe.”

Maybe MarketSaw heard that Blomkamp’s new film is shooting this fall — perhaps the socio-political sci-fi horror he spoke about in recent months — but failed to do any real digging? (for those guys 2+2=5 on a routine basis.)

Either way, there’s more of the story to tell, says Copley. “There’s a million ways you can go. Neil’s actually very interested in prequels as well; he’s said that a few times. We wouldn’t do the traditional Hollywood version of the sequel which would just be 100 aliens fighting humans.”
