'Shawshank Redemption' Reunion Begats A Larger, Much More Important Question

Because we just wrote about Frank Darabont and because it’s news, apparently there’s going to be a 15-year reunion of “The Shawshank Redemption” this summer for all cast and crew members. Cinematical says a very “snazzy” website with all the details of the commemoration has been produced.

‘Shawshank’ of course was a short story written by Stephen King, adapted and directed by Darabont and despite incredible performances, inspired filmmaking and major acclaim, the film failed to win one Academy Award in 1994 (It was nominated for seven awards, including Best Picture). ‘Shawshank’ is retroactively (and correctly) now remembered as one of the greatest movies of the ’90s and in some cases of all time (and many would agree that “Forrest Gump,” the Best Picture Oscar winner that year, is a trite, cliched piece of shit not worthy of the plaudits).

This is all fine and good. In fact, we happened upon ‘Shawshank’ this weekend on TV and we agree that it’s a wonderfully moving film worthy of praise, (retroactive or otherwise), reunions and whatever else you’d like to shake at it. Our major question for those that attend this get-together? What the fuck is up with the most recent 10-year anniversary DVD cover? Last we recall Red did not help Andy Dufresne blow-up the Death Star, nor did the two of them help save the Ark of the Covenant from the Nazis. Worst. revisionist. poster/dvd cover. ever. Someone bring that shit up please. Thanks.
