Warner Brothers took DC Films in a lighter direction with the 2019 film “Shazam!” Filmmaker David F. Sandberg took a break from horror to direct a comedic film about found families and Zachary Levi acting like a child with unbelievable strength. His movie struck a chord with critics and audiences (at least amongst those who saw the film in theaters), and DC decided to return to Philadelphia for “Shazam! Fury of the Gods.”
The sequel brings Levi and Asher Angel back to play Billy Batson, an orphan who lurks into superpowers. The end of the first film says Batson bonding with his new foster family and his siblings all gaining similar powers. Now, the fam will have new Godly opponents as they hone their newfound strength.
Jack Dylan Glazer, Adam Brody, Faithe Herman, Meagan Good, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Ross Butler, Jovan Armand, and D.J, Cotrona return to play Batson’s siblings and their superhero forms (with Fulton playing both teenage and super forms). Marta Milans and Cooper Andrews are also back playing the foster parents of the team.
Sandberg and company gain three fantastic actors to fight with Levi and company. Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler play three daughters of the God Atlas. Plot details about the film are vague, but these three together should create fascinating adversaries. Also, the conflicting families s should help continue the first film’s exploration of such unions.
“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” soars into theaters in November 2022. You can check out the full DC Fandome Trailer here.
