Variety reports that Shia LaBeouf is attached to take the lead role in the film adaptation of Joe Hill‘s best-selling novel “Horns.” Keith Bunin has been hired to adapt the novel that centers on Ig Perrish, a young man who awakens from a black-out hangover only to find that he has horns sprouting from his head. As these mysterious horns continue to grow, Ig sets out to discover who murdered his girlfriend and how her death possibly caused these horns to pop out. Sound twisted? Well, it turns out Joe Hill is actually Stephen King‘s son. Huh.
LaBeouf will apparently be very involved in the development of the project, but Bunin is no slouch. In addition to being a playwright who also penned a handful of episodes of “In Treatment,” Bunin is also writing “The Return of the Ice Kids” for Michel Gondry so his stock as a writer has clearly gone up recently.
The move marks an interesting turn for LaBeouf who will next star in “Transfomers: Dark of the Moon,” the third film in his extremely successful franchise with Michael Bay; he’s clearly looking to make some changes. He’s also in the midst of filming John Hillcoat‘s adaptation of the bootlegging drama “The Wettest County in the World” and with this picture, LaBeouf is ready to shake up his image it would seem. Or maybe he just really wants to wear horns in a movie.
