Sigourney Weaver & Alia Shawkat Join Great Cast Of 'Cedar Rapids'

When a comedy star has a breakout hit, the temptation seems to be to go out and attach themselves to as many projects as humanly possible (Galifianakis, we’re looking at you).

So kudos to “The Hangover” star Ed Helms for taking his time, and picking what sounds like a now very interesting project: “Cedar Rapids,” from director Miguel Arteta (“Youth In Revolt,” “Chuck & Buck”) and producer Alexander Payne.

As filming’s begun, the cast has filled out, with Sigourney Weaver and Alia Shawkat (“Arrested Development,” “Whip It”) joining Helms, Anne Heche and John C Reilly (who Variety reports as new casting, but he was confirmed over a month ago).

The story follows a small-town, sad-sack insurance salesman, who must represent his company at a conference in order to save the jobs of his colleagues. Weaver evidently plays Helms’ former seventh-grade teacher. Great cast on this one. Should make for a very good indie comedy.

We still have yet to see “Youth In Revolt” (missed it at TIFF), but we heard it was cute and decent, and that’s pretty much all we’re asking from it.
