Got a Tip?

Sigourney Weaver Offers Update On Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ Movie, Says It’ll Be “Worth The Wait”

Ridley Scott is the reason we can’t have nice things. Okay, that might be exaggerating a bit, but had things gone differently, Neill Blomkamp would already be in production on his “Alien” movie starring Sigourney Weaver, which had initially been planned for release in 2017. But then Scott stepped in, and demanded that his “Alien: Covenant” arrive first, before Blomkamp gets underway on his movie, which will take place after “Aliens,” but is said to ignore the other sequels. And though it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Blomkamp’s movie, it seems it’s still in the cards.

Weaver recently stopped by an event for VMware, and was asked about the status of Blomkamp’s film.

“Well, I think it is. Ridley asked Neill not to make our Alien ’til after ‘Prometheus 2.’  [Ridley] wanted his movie to shoot and be released first. But it’s an amazing script, and Neill and I are really excited about doing it,” she said. “We’re doing other things until we can get going on that. I’d be really surprised if we didn’t do it, because it’s such a great script, and we love working together. So, it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it’ll be worth the wait.”

Keep hope alive, and remember, Scott did confirm last fall that Blomkamp’s movie will roll after ‘Covenant.’

“I’m producing [Blomkamp’s movie]. It’s designed to go next after [‘Alien: Covenant’],” the director said in October. [“His version] is more associated with Ripley. It’s coming from a completely different angle. It’s kind of more of a sequel… after, after after. I’m coming at it from the back end.”

“Alien: Covenant” opens on August 4, 2017. [via Live For Film]
