Bong Joon-Ho's 'Okja' Starring Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal And Paul Dano Has Started Filming

In the works for a while, the good news has arrived today that “The Host,” “Mother,” and “Snowpiercer” director Bong Joon-Ho is now in production on his next film, “Okja.” And it sounds like it’s going to be another treat from the director.

Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano will star in the film, co-written by Jon Ronson (“Frank“), which follows Mija (Seohyun An), a young girl who must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend: a massive animal named Okja.

“With ‘Okja’ I want to show the beauty that can exist between man and animal, and also the horror between them,” the director said.

Devon Bostick, Lily Collins, Byun Heebong, Shirley Henderson, Daniel Henshall, Yoon Je Moon, Choi Wooshik and Steven Yeun make up the rest of the diverse cast, with filming to take place in South Korea, Canada and the U.S.

The English- and Korean-language film will hit Netflix in 2017, and have a limited day and date release. All this to say, this one sounds like another ambitious effort from Bong Joon-Ho, and one that promises to memorable.
