Remember the “Snowpiercer” TV series? It feels like it’s been years since it was announced that TNT was picking up the series adaptation of Bong Joon-ho’s film and the French graphic novel. Well, that’s because it has been years. Almost three of them, in fact. The long, and troubled, development process of “Snowpiercer” has seen the series undergo radical changes. But apparently, three years after its announcement, the post-apocalyptic series is finally hitting TV screens.
During a recent press event (via Deadline), Brett Weitz, general manager for TBS and TNT, announced that “Snowpiercer” is still coming out soon, just not on the network you were anticipating. The series is moving from the drama-heavy TNT to its sister network TBS. Normally, TBS would be the network devoted to comedies, but with “Snowpiercer,” the cable channel is beginning its foray into the world of drama.
“‘Snowpiercer’ is the perfect show to kick-off TBS’ entry into dramas with intricate storytelling, stunning visuals and first-class acting,” said Weitz. “We believe in the longevity of this series and that audiences will be amazed by the fantastical world that brings to life such relevant social, political and environmental issues.”
Weitz also announced that ahead of the first season premiere (which will be next year…hopefully), “Snowpiercer” has already been renewed for a Season 2.
This is, frankly, shocking news, as the series has seen nothing but drama in its years of development. In January of 2018, it was announced that the series was changing showrunners, with Graeme Manson (“Orphan Black”) replacing writer/producer Josh Friedman. From there, the changes Manson made to the series were publicly criticized by pilot director Scott Derrickson (“Doctor Strange”), who minced no words about his displeasure for the series’ new direction and exited the series.

From there, it’s been delay after delay, with the series first expected in 2018, but then pushed to 2019. Now, “Snowpiercer” isn’t going to arrive on TV screens until spring 2020.
The series stars Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs. Joining them in the supporting cast are Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, and Jaylin Fletcher.
