There aren’t many topics that are as controversial on Twitter as filmmaker Zack Snyder. Much like everything on social media, there’s no middle ground. You either fall into the “Snyder is a god!” or “Snyder is the worst!” camps. So, when Snyder posts that his next film project is the long-in-development adaptation of Ayn Rand’s “The Fountainhead,” you have to imagine that Twitter was ablaze in hot takes on the news.

For those that are surprised to hear that Snyder was tackling the Ayn Rand novel for his next film, you shouldn’t be. Way back in 2016, a week or so before the filmmaker unleashed “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” he talked about how he was already doing preliminary work on the adaptation.
“I’ve always felt like ‘The Fountainhead’ was such a thesis on the creative process and what it is to create something. Warner Bros. owns [Ayn Rand’s] script and I’ve just been working on that a little bit,” said Snyder.
“The Fountainhead” is a novel about an architect named Howard Roark, who doesn’t feel like he needs to sacrifice his own vision just to appeal to the masses. He refuses to change just to fit in. Hmmm, makes you wonder why Snyder feels like this is an appealing story. However, the novel has its fair share of critics, who say that Rand treated her female characters as less than. There’s also an issue with how Rand treats a sexual assault that is at the heart of the core relationship. This again can lead one to think about why Snyder has chosen this film as his next project. Not saying anything about Snyder’s own thoughts on sexual assault, but if his track record with female characters is any indication (just look at “Sucker Punch”), perhaps he’s not the best equipped to handle such subject matter.
Ultimately, let’s leave the hot takes for Twitter and share some of the tweets that stood out to us about this news of Zack Snyder’s future film.
Judging from my feed right now, Zack Snyder’s THE FOUNTAINHEAD is going to be the great unifying force that finally brings Film Twitter together in a single epic act of dragging.
And I. Am. Here for it.

“Zack Snyder’s The Fountainhead” is something that would appear on a marquee as a split-second sight gag in The Simpsons. How is it real?

…y'know, after learning zach snyder wants to direct the fountainhead, that man of steel scene where pa kent's all "no no don't save those people you're too exceptional" suddenly makes a lot more sense

It’s obviously terrible that Zack Snyder is doing a film of THE FOUNTAINHEAD, but on the plus side it means that we’re a maximum of two years away from Paul Ryan being arrested for masturbating in a cinema auditorium.

It's nice when people you like make good films from material you admire, but the exact opposite is also oddly satisfying eg Zack Snyder's THE FOUNTAINHEAD.

you, not wrong: Zack Snyder's FOUNTAINHEAD is gonna suck
me, demonstrating that truth is more than mere fact: this is true, but it'll be really fucking funny

Everyone’s pointing and laughing at Zack Snyder because he’s adapting The Fountainhead, when they really should be pointing and laughing at him because he’s still using Vero.

Can't wait to see all that slow-motion architecture in Zack Snyder's THE FOUNTAINHEAD
— Chris Evangelista (@cevangelista413) May 29, 2018
Please god let Zack Snyder have to bankroll THE FOUNTAINHEAD using a kickstarter campaign.

The idea of Zack Snyder directing THE FOUNTAINHEAD is making me cackle. It’s going to be *so phallic and so bonkers*.
Like, I detest Rand’s writing. But marrying that turgid prose & philosophical horror with Snyder’s outrageous visual bombast sounds like a three-spliff delight.

By far the best part of Zack Snyder doing a Fountainhead film is that we get to hear for the entire leadup to his film how bad Ayn Rand is from a bunch of people who have never read a word of her writing, and have no idea what her books are about.
It's gonna be a real treat.

In terms of wrong place/wrong time, a glossy FOUNTAINHEAD adaptation in 2018 ranks just below Eli Roth's DEATH WISH.
