Got a Tip?

Sony Reserves 2024 & 2025 Release Dates For Upcoming Marvel Projects: Are They For ‘Venom3’ & Tom Holland’s Next ‘Spider-Man’ Pic?

Let the speculation begin. Deadline reports that Sony has reserved two dates on the upcoming movie calendar for Sony/Marvel projects: November 8, 2024 and June 27, 2025. What’s more, both dated movies will have access to IMAX screens. So what could these two titles be? The easy answer for one is clear: “Venom 3” with Tom Hardy, directed by writer Kelly Marcel. But the other is where the speculation starts, and fans think/hope it’s Tom Holland‘s next “Spider-Man” movie.

In Holland’s recent press tour for the Apple TV+ limited series “The Crowded Room,” he’s hinted that things are coming together for Sony’s next “Spider-Man” film. “Some stuff is going on” in his Spider-Verse, Holland confirmed, and he’s “excited” about it. But the actor played coy on details. “Whether or not it’ll come to fruition, who knows?” Holland continued. “But right now it’s looking pretty good, and we’ll just have to wait and see.”

A day and date release for a Sony/Marvel pic with access to IMAX screens certainly sounds like an incoming new “Spider-Man” film to this writer. And with “Venom 3” as the only high-profile movie in the development pipeline for the Sony Spider-Verse (with a Fall 2024 release), it’s easy to conclude that “Spider-Man 4” may hit theaters in the summer 2025 slot.

And while both films are a long way off, neither faces heavy competition from other studios on their opening weekend.  Universal has an untitled event project slated for November 1, 2024, and Warner Bros. its own tentpole project on November 15, while Paramount has Ridley Scott‘s “Gladiator 2” on November 22. Meanwhile, Sony’s film on June 27, 2025 faces off against Disney‘s live-action rendition of “Moana.” A potential showdown “Spider-Man 4” and “Moana”? It’s easy to pick the winner there.

It’s also no surprise Sony wants to pencil in official dates for future “Spider-Man” projects. After all, “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” is June’s biggest movie so far, and currently sits at $412.5 million at the global box-office with no signs of slowing down. But with the current WGA writers’ strike, there’s also the chance that these release dates could get shuffled around, like so many others have recently. Once that situation resolves itself, then Spider-Man fans may feel more confident about these two dates.
