Sansa Stark is heading back to HBO. Okay, well maybe not Sansa Stark, but Sophie Turner is returning to the premium network that spawned “Game of Thrones.” And no, it’s not in a ‘Thrones’ spinoff. Instead, she’s set to play a fairly pivotal role in the highly-anticipated HBO limited series, “The Staircase.”

According to Deadline, Sophie Turner has signed on to join the all-star cast in Antonio Campos’ upcoming HBO series, “The Staircase.” The series is based on the real-life story of author Michael Peterson and the mysterious (perhaps nefarious) details surrounding the death of his wife while at their family home. In the series, Turner will play Margaret Ratliff, one of the adopted daughters of Peterson.
The already-stacked cast includes Colin Firth, Toni Collette, Juliette Binoche, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Parker Posey. Obviously, with the huge success of the true-crime docuseries that covered the case, and the fact that Antonio Campos is directing, HBO is willing to put a massive cast behind “The Staircase.” The series is written by Maggie Cohn, who is probably best known for her work on “American Crime Story.”
As mentioned above, Turner is probably best known for her role on HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” She earned an Emmy nomination for her role in that series. Turner also starred in the most recent ‘X-Men’ films that wrapped up with “Dark Phoenix” in 2019. But to be honest, fans would probably rather remember her for her work on ‘Thrones.’
It’s unclear when “The Staircase” will debut on HBO. The network has been ramping up its production over the past few years, as it aims to fill up the HBO Max streaming service and compete with the likes of Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu.
