It ought to be easy to dislike Joss Whedon. He’s an absurdly talented, extremely laid-back mega-geek who created some of the finest TV ever and now gets to play with all Marvel‘s money and makes little indie movies on the side just because he can… and he’s also a musician. This isn’t really news, since Whedon wrote the “Firefly” theme tune, the songs for the musical “Buffy” episode “Once More With Feeling,” the songs for “Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” (and for the sing-along DVD commentary to that blog)—the man even wrote a song for the direct-to-video “The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride.” He ought to be really, really resent-able.
But he just isn’t. He’s great. He’s adorable. Even when he’s writing not-great little indie movies like “In Your Eyes” (our review is here), we love him. Even when he also writes a merry-sad indie-pop track for the soundtrack, just to show off. And that tune is featured alongside cuts by sadster Iron & Wine, hipster Santigold and a lot more too. You can hear Whedon’s song below and see “In Your Eyes” on Vimeo for $5. You might as well—it’s not like you’re doing anything useful with your time, right? Comparatively, that is. [MTV]
