‘Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse’ Adds New Directors, But No Release Date Is In Sight

Even though it’s one of the most beloved superhero film franchises of the past decade, there seems to be quite a lot of drama surrounding the release of “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.” Reports of behind-the-scenes issues have been swirling since “Across the Spider-Verse” was released in 2023. But now, it would appear things are seemingly on track, as the trilogy-ending film has found its directors.

According to a new post on social media, Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson have been hired to direct “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” which will be the final film in the ‘Spider-Verse’ trilogy. Not much is known about the sequel, other than what we can assume from the cliffhanger ending of ‘Across the Spider-Verse,’ which found Miles Morales in an alternate universe standing across from an evil version of himself.

Persichietti is probably best known as one of the co-directors of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” Thompson, on the other hand, was one of the co-directors of the sequel, ‘Across the Spider-Verse.’ So both men are very much veterans of this franchise.

As mentioned, this news comes after rumors have been going around that there is trouble behind the scenes. There have been rumors that large portions of the sequel have been thrown out and that the film is effectively starting over from scratch. Though, as you might expect, none of this has been confirmed. That said, with what is seen as a change in directors, it wouldn’t be surprising if large portions of the film are, at least, being retooled.

Sadly, even though we now know who is directing the third film, there isn’t any hint at when we might see the movie debut. Originally, it was supposed to hit theaters about half a year after ‘Across.’ Obviously, that didn’t happen, and now it would appear that we’re going to be looking at something in the range of 2026 or beyond.
