Lionsgate really doesn’t want “Saw” to die. After a number of sequels that seemingly drove the concept and characters into the ground, the studio tried to reboot the whole damn thing with “Jigsaw” in 2018. That film didn’t necessarily light up the box office. Now, with the help of Chris Rock, “Saw” is returning, but with a brand-new title, “Spiral.”
As seen in the first trailer for “Spiral,” Rock (who also produced the film and helped develop the story) stars as a veteran detective, who is attempting to train his new partner. Things begin to get a bit crazy when they’re called to investigate a crime scene where a police officer was killed and a spiral was left as a warning.

In addition to Chris Rock, the film stars Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Samuel L. Jackson. Longtime “Saw” director (the second, third, and fourth films in the franchise, specifically), Darren Lynn Bousman, returns to the series for this installment.
“Spiral” arrives in theaters on May 15.
Here’s the synopsis:
A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL, the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
