Ron Howard Narrates 'Star Wars: A New Hope' In A Hilarious 'Arrested Development' Homage

Today is Star Wars Day and to start your morning off right, we have a quick video that’s been making the rounds thanks to “The Star Wars Show.” Recently, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” director Ron Howard was invited on the YouTube series and, as part of his appearance, he recorded something special, combining his newfound role as storyteller in the “Star Wars” universe and his previous work as narrator of the unique Bluth family’s world on “Arrested Development.”

You may not think “Arrested Development” mixed with “Star Wars’ (‘A New Hope,’ to be specific) would work that well. However, believe it or not, there’s enough awkwardness and irony that ‘A New Hope’ narrated by Howard actually feels like a long-lost episode of “Arrested Development,” just in some sort of alternate dimension. And there’s the requisite dash of inappropriate family love humor, except it’s not just George Michael pining after his cousin. Now, it’s a farm boy lusting over his long-lost twin sister.

Logical fallacies are pointed out, such as the fact that Obi-Wan clearly had a long history with R2-D2, and even though he describes Luke’s father as a “good friend,” Obi-Wan definitely is responsible for maiming Anakin and definitely ended their relationship on bad terms.

And because it’s Ron Howard and there’s a little project upcoming that he wants to promote, there’s your obligatory ‘Solo’ advertisement shoved in the middle.

Ultimately, it’s nice to see a property that’s held to such a high standard, and dissected by millions of fans, get poked fun at by one of their own. This isn’t Mark Hamill making snide remarks to the press. This is a fun little video that combines the humor of a beloved series (making it’s return to Netflix “real soon”) and the timeless story of a farm boy that saves the galaxy.
