Lucasfilm Announces Animated Series 'Star Wars Resistance' To Debut In Fall

You thought the end of “Star Wars Rebels” meant that Lucasfilm and Disney were taking a break from animated “Star Wars,” didn’t you? Well, you were wrong!

Much like the Sith “Rule of Two,” there’s pretty much a Disney/Lucasfilm “Rule of One,” meaning that at all times, there needs to be at least one animated “Star Wars” series on the air. Today, Lucasfilm announced that they will debut the next animated series, titled “Star Wars Resistance” in the Fall on the Disney Channel.

According to Lucasfilm, the series follows “Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.” As you might have guessed, the “anime-inspired” series takes place in the era before “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and will feature “the beloved droid BB-8 alongside ace pilots, colorful new characters and appearances by fan favorites including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma.” Best of all, Phasma and Poe will be voiced by live-action actors Gwendoline Christie and Oscar Isaac, respectively.

Also good news is that ‘Resistance’ is created by the animated “Star Wars” mastermind Dave Filoni, of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels” fame. “The idea for ‘Star Wars Resistance’ came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots” said Filoni. “My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in ‘Star Wars,’ and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”

The cast for ‘Resistance’ includes Christopher Sean, Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence, Myrna Velasco, Josh Brener, Donald Faison, Bobby Moynihan, Jim Rash, and Rachel Butera.
