Disney and Lucasfilm are finally going back to a galaxy far, far away with a new “Star Wars” film that isn’t tied to an existing property. “The Mandalorian & Grogu” will drop on May 22, 2026, but after that all eyes will be on “Star Wars: Starfighter” and, as always, it will be a slow drip of new info, but another piece of the puzzle has arrived.
Director Shawn Levy has confirmed on Twitter that Oscar-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda will lens the new “Star Wars” flick. Miranda took home the gold for “Life of Pi,” but he’s been a familiar face on the Disney lot, getting behind the camera for “Tron: Legacy” and “Tomorrowland.” Mostly recently, he’s lensed the big, slick box office hits “Top Gun: Maverick” and “F1,” so he knows how to make action sequences shine.
“Star Wars: Starfighter” is currently in production and stars Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, Mia Goth, Matt Smith, Aaron Pierre, Flynn Gray, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings. As usual, plot details are housed deep inside the Death Star, with the only kernel shared so far that it will take place five years after “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
“Star Wars: Starfighter” hits theaters on May 28, 2027.
