As rumored Stephen Chow (“Kung Fu Hustle”) has officially left “The Green Hornet” being led by its star Seth Rogen and director Michel Gondry. The split is said to be amicable and apparently one of the reasons Chow left — other than creative differences — was because the production timetable did apparently not jive with other projects he wanted to tackle. Chow was once set to direct this picture which makes a lot of sense and we’re not sure exactly why another filmmaker was brought on board.
We also don’t understand Michel Gondry’s hard-on for this project — this is his second attempt to make a film about this 3rd-tier character — but it all might work to his advantage. Rogen, and presumably his writing partner Evan Goldberg, seem to enamored with the fanciful director, he just tweak this project closer to his original vision which was more like the wacky comical tone of “Superman III.” According to yesterday’s Production Weekly doc, Cameron Diaz is in the picture as the love interest (before she was just in talks), or at least she’s listed on the “Green Hornet” update in their PDF, and no disrespect, but that’s not en entirely 100% source. They might simply be listing her in it because her name was mentioned in the trades. Frankly, she’s a terrible choice. [Variety]
