After earning Oscar nominations, Demi Moore (“The Substance”) and Colman Domingo (“Sing Sing”) are teaming up for “Strange Arrivals,” which has quite the elevator pitch for a new feature film centred around an interracial couple in the 1960s.
Variety reports that the film, from Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Roger Ross Williams (“Music By Prudence,” “Cassandro”) and See-Saw Films (“Slow Horses”), will revolve around one of the first documented stories of an alien abduction and is yet another exciting film heading to the Cannes Film Market this month.
A tantalizing synopsis for “Strange Arrivals” as mentioned by the outlet:
Inspired by the incredible true story of Betty and Barney Hill, an interracial couple who, in 1961, became the first reported case of an alien abduction, as they journeyed back from their honeymoon in Niagara Falls. Their experience catapulted them to fame and celebrity, but underneath that notoriety simmered the truth of what really happened that night, which would test even the most epic of romances.
“As a director, to be able to work with actors at the top of their craft is a dream,” said Roger Ross Williams in an official statement about the new genre-bending period project. “Demi and Colman coming together for the first time to bring Jane Anderson’s beautiful script that illuminates the human condition to life, will be magic. I am also thrilled to work alongside the remarkable team at See-Saw. They have an amazing track record of making artist-driven stories, and we couldn’t be in better hands.”
Rocket Science and Cross City Film are handling international sales at Cannes for “Strange Arrivals” with a producing team that includes Emile Sherman, Iain Canning, Samantha Lang, Anne Carey, Simon Gillis, Garth Davis, Williams, Thorsten Schumacher, Aaron Mahnke, Conal Byrne, Geoff Martz, and Bob Pittman.
Meanwhile, WME Independent, CAA Media Finance, and Cross City Films are co-repping the U.S. rights for the movie.
We can’t wait to see who Williams casts alongside Moore and Domingo, as this is certainly one gestating film to keep an eye on.
