Steve-O Talks Going "Crazier Than Ever" For His 'Bucket List' Comedy Special, The Future Of 'Jackass' & More [The Playlist Podcast]

Steve-O is getting older. However, he’s also never been happier or healthier. And in his new comedy special, “Steve-O’s Bucket List,” viewers get to see all sides of the comedian. ‘Bucket List’ is a comedy experience like no other, as Steve-O tells his own personal love story with a series of insane stunts serving as a backdrop. And in this episode of The Playlist Podcast, the “Jackass” star talks about his life, his recovery, and why now is the time to check all the things off of his own personal bucket list.

In case you didn’t know this, in the years after “Jackass,” Steve-O has transitioned into becoming a very successful stand-up comedian, with multiple specials under his belt. However, neither of his previous two specials can quite compete with “Steve-O’s Bucket List,” which features a mixture of stand-up comedy and “Jackass”-esque stunts. Except for this special, Steve-O didn’t have to worry about censors or studios, so he went all out. Seriously, the stunts in ‘Bucket List’ are some of the most over-the-top and crazy things you’ve ever seen Steve-O do. They make “Jackass” seem tame by comparison.

And in our discussion, we talk about the creation of “Steve-O’s Bucket List” and how he came up with the idea to fully merge his stunt work with stand-up to create such a unique viewing experience.

“I wanted to lash out against all of the community guidelines, all of the rules of YouTube and social media. I wanted to push the boundaries and go crazier than ever before.”

We also talk about his recovery from addiction issues, as well as the bond he has created with the various “Jackass” folks, who he lovingly calls his brothers.

“It’s epic, man. We’re just a family,” he explained. “And like with any family, you have so much history that you’ve all been mad at each other, you’ve had highs and lows. It’s just a bond that is very, very unbreakable. They’re really family to me. They’re really my brothers.”

We also talk about his future, whether that includes a new “Jackass” film or if he is willing to give up stunts entirely just to focus on stand-up and his podcast work.

“I think I have one more of these multi-media shows that raises the bar, yet again, in me,” he said. “And after that, it’s probably going to be time to do the podcast and do some stand-up. I don’t know.”

As for more “Jackass,” don’t count on it… or maybe do? It’s unclear.

“I have no say, whatsoever, in what the future of the ‘Jackass’ franchise is. I can tell you, with great confidence, I don’t see another ‘Jackass’ movie [happening],” Steve-O said. “But then again, I would have told you the same thing about ‘Jackass 4.’ I didn’t think there’d be a fourth one. I really have no idea.”
