Got a Tip?

‘Peaky Blinders’ Creator Steven Knight To Develop A New Series About The U.K.’s Two Tone Music Scene

Peaky Blinders” sort of has that reputation as the one Netflix show that everyone loves to recommend to friends and family. It’s not necessarily a series that is as popular as “Stranger Things” or “The Office,” but the people who watch “Peaky Blinders” love “Peaky Blinders.” And those people should be excited by what the creator has up his sleeve next.

According to Deadline, “Peaky Blinders” creator, Steven Knight, is hard at work on a brand-new series about the UK’s Two Tone music scene in the early-‘80s. The untitled series will tackle the genre that mixed traditional Jamaican ska music with elements of punk rock and new wave music. The series will show how Two Tone music helped bring together disparate groups of Black, white, and Asian youth throughout the communities of Coventry and Birmingham during that era.

“This will be a project very close to my heart, since this is home territory geographically and personally,” said Knight. “I grew up with this music and the people who loved it. It was a soundtrack that perfectly fitted the mood of the times, on the streets, in clubs and on the football terraces. Birmingham and Coventry were the places where Two Tone was born and we will chart its progress through the important years. The production team we are putting together will perfectly reflect the make up of the people who made Two Tone happen.”

In addition to “Peaky Blinders,” Knight is probably best known for his other series, “Taboo,” as well as his feature film from last year, “Serenity.” He’s also a producer and writer on the Apple TV+ series, “See,” as well as a writer of feature films such as “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” and “Locke.”

It’s unclear when production might begin on the new series or what streaming service or network might distribute. But with Knight attached and his pedigree what it is, it shouldn’t be long before someone picks this show up.
