Netflix Announces Duffer Brothers Exclusive Deal & Teases 'Stranger Things 4': "We're Not In Hawkins Anymore"

Lately, we’ve been talking a lot about the importance of established, iconic series on streaming platforms. “The Office,” “Friends,” “Seinfeld,” and “The Big Bang Theory” have all made nine-figure deals (the latter of which tops $1 billion) to be added to the library of their respective streamers. But for Netflix, not only is it important to have a series like that, there are soon-to-be-iconic, moneymaking franchises happening right now that the platform has to keep afloat. And with that being said, Netflix has made sure the Duffer Brothers are sticking around for more “Stranger Things” and other projects in the future.

According to the streamer, the Duffer Brothers have signed a multi-year exclusive deal with Netflix to produce more TV series and films for the platform. And as you might expect, the first project to stem from this new deal is the upcoming “Stranger Things 4.”

Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix, said, “The Duffer Brothers have captivated viewers around the world with ‘Stranger Things’ and we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with them to bring their vivid imaginations to other film and series projects our members will love. We can’t wait to see what The Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of The Upside Down.”

Obviously, the Duffers are equally excited to keep on with the Netflix partnership. You’d be hard-pressed to find a franchise on the streaming platform that is as important as “Stranger Things.”

“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our relationship with Netflix,” said the filmmakers. “Ted Sarandos, Cindy Holland, Brian Wright, and Matt Thunell took a huge chance on us and our show — and forever changed our lives. From our first pitch meeting to the release of ‘Stranger Things 3,’ the entire team at Netflix has been nothing short of sensational, providing us with the kind of support, guidance, and creative freedom we always dreamed about. We can’t wait to tell many more stories together — beginning, of course, with a return trip to Hawkins!”

Of course, we don’t know what is going to come from the Duffers that isn’t “Stranger Things”-related, as of yet. Obviously, the first thing on the docket is to film “Stranger Things 4.” And to announce that, Netflix released a little teaser that obviously doesn’t include any footage (they haven’t begun production), but does hint at where the series is going with the tagline, “We’re not in Hawkins anymore.”

Will the plucky teens from Hawkins make the trip to the Upside Down and vanquish the evil whatchamacallit once and for all? We’ll probably have to wait until 2020 or 2021 for that answer.
