‘Succession’ Season 2 Trailer: HBO’s Series About A Terrible Media Mogul & His Conniving Children Returns In August

The lifestyles of the rich and famous used to be the premise for a gaudy, ‘80s TV series, but also fodder for various drama series for years. And recently HBO tackled that premise, adding a media angle, in the network’s critically-acclaimed new series “Succession.” Now, after the first season set the stage, the drama really begins to unfold in the upcoming Season 2.

As seen in the trailer, just because you’re part of one of the richest families in the country, led by a media mogul patriarch, it doesn’t mean stress is somehow not in the picture. It’s clear that Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong) is now considered the black sheep of his famous family, led by father (Brian Cox) and his two siblings (Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook, respectively). The new season of the HBO drama follows what happens in wake of Season 1’s surprises and where the future of the family-owned media conglomerate goes in light of all these developments.

“Succession” first caught the attention of TV viewers last year, as it was being launched by producer-director Adam McKay, who played a hand in the show’s creation. But he’s taking more of a backseat in Season 2, as showrunner/series creator Jesse Armstrong continues to steer the ship.

The show’s incredible cast also includes Alan Ruck, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Natalie Gold, Peter Friedman, Rob Yang, J. Smith Cameron, Dagmara Dominczyk, and Arian Moayed.

“Succession” is set to return to HBO in August.

Here’s the synopsis:

Set in New York, Succession explores themes of power, politics, money, and family. Logan Roy (Brian Cox), the tough, powerful, aging patriarch, is head of Waystar Royco, a family-controlled international media conglomerate. He is married to his third wife, Marcia (Hiam Abbass), a loving, formidable partner. The Roy family, which includes troubled former heir-apparent Kendall (Jeremy Strong), his outspoken, fun-loving brother Roman (Kieran Culkin), and his savvy but conflicted sister, Shiv (Sarah Snook), jousting for power as they struggle to retain control of their father’s empire. While the future looks increasingly uncertain, it is the past that threatens to ultimately destroy them.
