A family moves into a suburban house and becomes convinced they’re not alone. It’s a ghost story from Steven Soderbergh that’s told visually, from the perspective of the specter, but really a story about people trying to stick together. Stephen Dillane, Nabil Elouahabi, Paapa Essiedu co-star.
“The American Society of Magical Negroes”
A satirical cultural farce, writer/director Kobi Libii tells a provocative tale of a young man recruited into a secret society of magical Black people who dedicate their lives to a cause of utmost importance: making white people’s lives easier. Justice Smith and David Alan Grier star alongside An-Li Bogan, Drew Tarver, Rupert Friend, and Nicole Byer.
“Winner”
Writer/director Susanna Fogel does Sundance back-to-back, following up 2023’s “Cat Person” world premiere with a satirical take on the Reality Winner whistleblower story about a brilliant young misfit who finds her morals change while working as an NSA contractor. Emilia Jones, Connie Britton, Zach Galifianakis, Kathryn Newton, and Danny Ramirez co-star.
“Will & Harper”
Directed by Josh Greenbaum (“Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar”), “Will & Harper is a fascinating story that shows a very intimate, personal, and different side of Will Ferrell. In this portrait of friendship, the “Anchorman” star takes a cross-country road trip with his close friend of 30 years (an “SNL” writer and screenwriter of Ferrell’s “Eurovision Song Contest”) after she comes out as a trans woman.
