Sundance: Magnolia Picks David Gordon Green’s ‘Prince Avalanche’ With Paul Rudd & Emile Hirsch

nullWhen it was first announced last summer that David Gordon Green had gone ahead a shot a movie in secret with Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch, we didn't know what to think. A remake of the Icelandic film "Either Way" which nobody (who isn't in Iceland) had really seen anyway, the question was whether or not it was going to be another comic goof, or perhaps something closer to the mood and tone of his earlier work. Well, it turns out its both of those things.

Our man in Sudance reviewed the movie just a couple days ago, and quite simpy put, he declared "that [it] might be Green's most vital film to date." Following two road crew workers doing repairs following a wildfire that has left devastation in its wake, the film is "far from a retreat to the safe comfort of his generally more-beloved indie films and instead, it's an exciting step forward, a progressive blend of his career thus far." Sounds pretty great, and now it has a home which means its on its way to theaters.

Magnolia Pictures have snapped up the rights to the movie, and while there's no release date, given their usual pattern, this likely means both a limited theatrical and VOD play which seems just about right for this movie. Scored by David Wingo and Explosions In The Sky, "Prince Avalanche" is ultimately "a wonderfully eccentric examination of unlikely friendships that illuminates the absurd and lovely corners of life" which sounds pretty great to us. We chatted with Green in Sundance so more to come on this movie very soon.
