Got a Tip?

‘Sunset’ Trailer: Director László Nemes Returns With A Beautiful Trip To Early-20th Century Budapest

The first teaser we shared for the upcoming film “Sunset” is absolutely beautiful. There was no plot to discuss, as the footage only showed a mysterious woman walking around as people danced to music in 1913 Budapest. But with the new trailer for director László Nemes’ latest film, the beauty and calm from the first teaser is replaced by tension and suspense. Needless to say, “Sunset” is going to be an interesting film.

For those not aware of “Sunset,” the highly-anticipated film, which is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival and have a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, follows a young woman on the search for truth after she finds out that she is not able to work at her late parents’ hat store.

“Sunset” is only the second feature film from the acclaimed filmmaker. Nemes’ exploded on the scene with his first feature, “Son of Saul.” That film debuted at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix, before being nominated and eventually winning the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. Clearly, there’s a lot of hype surrounding Nemes’ newest film.

Obviously, judging by the two teasers we’ve seen so far for “Sunset,” the film is going to be carried by the performance of newcomer Juli Jakab, who plays the young Írisz Leiter in the film. Jakab previously had a role in “Son of Saul,” but was most recently in “Two Hookers and a Bitch.”

Here’s the synopsis:

Set in Budapest in 1913, the film focuses on Irisz Leiter, a young woman who arrives in the Hungarian capital hoping to work at a legendary hat store previously owned by her late parents. When she is turned away, she sets on a search for a man who can reveal the truth about a lost past. Playtime is handling international sales on the feature, which will play in Competition at Venice Film Festival, before screening as a special presentation at Toronto Film Festival.
