‘Super Pumped’: Joseph Gordon Levitt Stars In Showtime’s New ‘Battle For Uber’ Series From The Makers Of ‘Billions’

Screenwriters, directors, showrunners, and filmmakers Brian Koppelman and David Levien like to look at the world around them for inspiration. For their Showtime series, “Billions,” they looked at the cutthroat world of finance, hedge fund managers, and the real-life prosecutions of financial crime by federal authorities that have made major headlines worldwide. Before that, they famously looked at the world of poker and gambling for “Rounders,” the film that launched their career and made them go-to writers for people like Steven Soderbergh, John Dahl. Ultimately, they became legitimate filmmakers in their own right (even though they started way back in 2001 with “Knockaround Guys”) and essentially have set up shop for themselves.

With their Showtime relationship clearly a hit, they now have another new series ready to go, “Super Pumped: The Battle For Uber,” which as the title suggests, is based on the 2019 nonfiction book of the same name by Mike Isaac, centering on the rise and fall of former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

“Super Pumped” also stars Kyle Chandler, Uma Thurman (as Arianna Huffington), Kerry Bishé, Babak Tafti, Mousa Hussein Kraish, Hank Azaria, and Elisabeth Shue. Here’s the official synopsis:

SUPER PUMPED: THE BATTLE FOR UBER tells the story of one of Silicon Valley’s most successful and most destructive unicorns, Uber. The season pivots on Travis Kalanick (Gordon-Levitt), Uber’s hard-charging CEO who was ultimately ousted in a boardroom coup, and his sometimes tumultuous relationship with his mentor Bill Gurley (Chandler), the plainspoken, brilliant Texan venture capitalist who bets his sterling reputation on Uber’s success – and then has to live with the consequences. Thurman stars as Arianna Huffington, the savvy businesswoman and co-founder of The Huffington Post, who was an Uber board member. The SHOWTIME series will depict the roller-coaster ride of the upstart transportation company, embodying the highs and lows of Silicon Valley. Even amid the radical upheaval generated within the global tech capital, Uber stands out as both a marvel and a cautionary tale, featuring internal and external battles that ripple with unpredictable consequences. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Uma Thurman, and Kyle Chandler.
