As per the madness and method Christopher Nolan employs we’re about two months away from the scheduled release date of “Man Of Steel” and there has been precious little given away in terms of official photos or plot details. Thus far, all we’ve had to go by are the somewhat operatic trailers (they are pretty damn good), so at some point pretty soon Warner Bros. is going to start the final big push to get non-nerds out in numbers to see this. With that in mind, Entertainment Weekly has just published their summer issue and along with a smattering of new images — including a pretty fierce one of Michael Shannon‘s General Zod — there are a few surprising revelations about the movie.
“I’ll be honest with you, there’s no Kryptonite in the movie,” director Zack Snyder says, which of course, opens up all kinds of new questions. At one point in the trailer Clark Kent is seen in handcuffs with a military escort. Ordinarily, Supes could easily remove those, but if there is no Kryptonite in them, what is making him so submissive? His feelings maybe? Or perhaps he goes into that chamber thing in The Fortress and weakens himself so he can like, be more human, or something. Either way, interesting stuff — and we do wonder how diehard comic fans will take it. It all points to a movie that won’t just be stuff exploding, which seems to have been a goal for both Nolan and Snyder.
“You want to give the audience great spectacle. You want them to go to the movie, be eating their popcorn and be like, ‘Wow!’ ” producer Charles Roven said. “But it’s just not good enough to give them the ‘Wow.’ You want them to be emotionally engaged. Because if you just have the ‘wow,’ ultimately you get bludgeoned by that and you stop caring.”
One way or the other no one is not caring about this movie. Prepare for an avalanche of promo before “Man Of Steel” gets the cape out on June 14th. [via EW]
