Amazon Unveils First Look At Dakota Johnson From Luca Guadagnino's 'Suspiria' Remake

We’ve been excited about Luca Guadagnino’sSuspiria” for a while now. The remake of the classic Dario Argento film has been one of our most anticipated films this year. We were hoping to see the film premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. However, as we later reported, the Guadagnino turned down the opportunity, for whatever reason. Thankfully, even without the premiere, we are getting our first look at the film and a release date.

In the first look pictures from the film, we finally get our chance to see Dakota Johnson, who stars in the film. As we know from the Argento original, Dakota Johnson is going to play an American ballet student who joins a prestigious dance academy, but soon finds out that there is something fark darker and sinister at the academy than she could ever imagine. Of course, the stills from the film don’t give us any indication about how gruesome or dark Guadagnino’s film will go, but we’re expecting something completely different than his last film, the Oscar-nominated “Call Me By Your Name.”

“Suspiria” stars the aforementioned Johnson, as well as Tilda Swinton, Chloë Grace Moretz, Mia Goth and Jessica Harper. The film is directed by Guadagnino from a script by David Kajganich.

In addition to the stills, we also got word that the film will debut in theaters on November 2, distributed by Amazon Studios. Clearly, judging by the release date, Amazon feels that “Suspiria” could be an awards contender this fall.

Here’s the official synopsis:

As a darkness builds at the center of a world-renown dance company, its artistic director (Swinton), a young American new to the troupe (Johnson), and a grieving psychotherapist (Ebersdorf) become entangled in a bloody, sighing nightmare.
